Bokashi in Vietnam

(The picture relates to shrimp farming)

I work as a translator (Swedish to English) so I have to admit to being a real snob when it comes to machine translations. But I just changed my mind.

I got curious when I picked up the following newsclip from Vietnam and was thinking of publishing here, asking if anyone could read Vietnamese and let us know what it was all about. Then I hit Google Translate just for fun and bingo, it suddenly made sense. OK, the language is a bit of a muddle but I assume the content is more or less on track if you add a pinch of salt. So here’s the story! (and any Vietnamese readers out there PLEASE let us have your comments on the real thing!)

From what I can understand, this application deals with the use of Bokashi in shrimp farming to prevent disease and improve the process ecologically. The Bokashi is made from EM (Effective Microorganisms) and betel leaves. The Bokashi mix deals nicely with some unwanted bacteria which means they can cut down the use of antibiotics. Increased yield too from what I can gather. Export benefits and environmental benefits. And no small enterprise, is that hundreds of hectares of shrimps they’re talking about?

Enjoy!

Use of betel leaf diseases for aquaculture
Betel leaves are extracted, creating biological products as Bokashi – Trau, capable of a disease prevention for aquatic animals, biosecurity and friendly environment.

Compounds Bokashi – Trau by Dr Nguyen Quang Linh and his colleagues at the Department of Fisheries – Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry Research, newly built and put into mass production.

Replace multiple antibiotics

Products were first produced in this country is combined from microorganisms useful EM (Effective microorganisms) with extracts from betel leaves (scientific name is Piper betle) for the prevention and treatment for some aquatic species.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Linh, said: “Preparations biological Bokashi – Trau able to inhibit and kill two species of Vibrio and Aeromonas Parahaemoliticus hydrophyla, here are two species of bacteria common in freshwater fisheries and brackish water.

With over, preparations can replace many other antibiotics to prevent, as well as treatment of aquatic animals, particularly shrimp and fish species are now breeding.

Many households shrimp Thua Thien – Hue used products Bokashi – Trau to prevent and cure for shrimp and eel farming. Browse in Hamlet Tan, Dam Doi District, Ca Mau, cleaning products treated patients for more than 50 ha of prawn disease distributed white.

Specifically, lobster ill milk of many households in the Gulf Information lobster Phong, Khanh Hoa province has also been cured by products. So, many households harvested more effective than the use of antibiotics.

Bokashi – Trau only costs 100.000dong/lit, less than half the price of products with the same effect, while not inferior quality.

Addition, it should be as easy to use solution. 1ha area for farming, scale semi-intensive (at 10-15 con/m2) only 15-20 liters Bokashi – Trau prevention and treatment can be both good for farming.

Environmentally

People aquaculture often excessive abuse of antibiotics and chemicals for prevention and treatment caused the harm such as streaming drug-resistant bacteria, degrade the environment and bad influences to human health.

In addition, residues of antibiotics and growth hormone are doing worse image and quality of aquaculture products for export to Vietnam when abroad.

Do extracted from nature should Bokashi – Trau can overcome the environmental pollution. Dang Duy Hinh, Quang An (Quang Dien, Thua Thien – Hue) said after using Bokashi – Trau for disease prevention and treatment for shrimp, feed water after each service is guaranteed, no need to use chemicals to disinfect, and shrimp harvesting efficiency and quality to ensure more shrimp.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Linh ready for technology transfer and commercialization of products for businesses to create a quality product safely.

Recently, Truong Son Joint Stock Company, units are shrimp with hundreds of hectares in the province of Thua Thien – Hue and private enterprise Thanh Huong (Quang Binh province) has signed with the team for technology transfer , to mass produce drugs “herbal antibiotic” is.
